Crown Hall

I plan watercolor series dedicated to IIT's campus. That's the first painting of the Crown Hall - designed by Mies van der Rohe.

Day 15: Brick Wall in the Morning.

I had to wake up unusually early for me today, around 6:00 AM (I sleep in till 2:00 PM otherwise), I looked out of my window and one striking difference in what i saw flashed in my brain - old dirty smoked brick wall of my neighbours' house that blocks all the light coming to my room was brightly lit with a morning sunshine. It appeared almost golden in a clear frozen air. I made a quick sketch in pen while figuring out how I can show the brick texture of the wall. A thick cloud of white steam was coming out of the pipes sticking from the neighbour's basement. That was harder to portray, so if I'll have to get up early on a cold Chicago morning again, I will certainly try to paint this cloud. Luckily my neighbor uses laundry drier almost every day.

Day 14: A Funky Speaker

Today's picture is called "A Funky Speaker".
Below I post a pen sketch and a finished watercolor mini-painting. It is more of a miniature in style and my experiment with color. The original speaker I tried to portray was black and grey by color. Mostly monochromic palette of Chicago winter is pretty depressing, and painting something of the same spectrum did not really appeal to me - as a result grey speaker came out to be a hippie.

One last thing: painting is approximately 5.5" x 8.5". Tomorrow I will update size specifications for the previous paintings and sketches.

Day 13: Flower basket

Below is a quick painting i did in October. The best part in my opinion is a wooden post and the fence. It is in a private collection at the moment.

Day 9: The Death of Coke

Watercolor sequence of the day. I called it The Death of Coke... The initial idea was to depict a black cord running into the water to an imaginary hair dryer or toaster. Well i decided not to do that, so here it is..

Dimensions: (5.5" x 6.5")
